What’s New on Campus this Term?
November 17, 2021
In November 2021, the NLSIU campus re-opened for its students after a long gap of over 18 months. In light of the COVID Pandemic, the University has undertaken several measures to upgrade the campus facilities for the NLSIU community and is continuing to make more improvements to its infrastructure.
Renovated Hostel Rooms
The University undertook an extensive renovation project for its hostels. This included construction of new rooms as well as expansion of existing hostel spaces to ensure sufficient space and ventilation in every room. In the Old Annapoorna Hostel Block , the dormitory space has been converted into six new double occupancy rooms. Similarly, the hall in the New Annapoorna Hostel has been converted into seven new double occupancy rooms. Meanwhile, in the Yamuna hostel, 12 new rooms have been constructed. All rooms have been renovated to fit in larger windows and additional vents above the doors as well.
The Quess Mess
Quess Cafe, the latest entry on the block, has become the go-to space for several students, faculty and administrative staff. Located opposite to the basketball court, the Cafe offers a variety of food options at any given time of the day. Starting at 7 AM, the Cafe offers meal options and snacks throughout the day. Within the first month, its special ‘white tea’ with mint leaves and chia seeds, has proved a popular choice amongst patrons. This is the first of several new catering initiatives NLSIU plans to offer this term.
Upgraded Gym Facilities
The gym, which was located in a 990 sq ft. indoor space earlier, has been moved to a newly-developed 1,575-sq ft. space in the Training Centre. The new space is well ventilated, with adequate toilets, showers and changing rooms. The gym is now open for faculty, staff and students. With the revised safety guidelines in place, housekeeping staff will be stationed at the gym for regular cleaning and sanitising of the facility. Maintaining the COVID safety protocols, only 20 members are being allowed to use the gym at any given time.
The University has also purchased new gym equipment which will be delivered and installed soon. Among them is the AssaultRower Elite, which takes rowing to the next level. The AirRower Elite targets the upper and lower back, the upper and lower legs, triceps, pecs, deltoids, obliques, glutes, and abs with a workout that is great for High-Intensity Interval Training, cardio, or endurance training.
The Gym is now open to faculty, staff and students from November 16, 2021 at the following times:
6 AM to 9 AM
11 AM to 1 PM
4 PM to 9 PM.
The gym instructor Mr. Naveen Kumar B.S., or an Assistant, will be available during these times.
