The course is meant to introduce students to the basic foundational principles of criminal law, including the constituent elements of a crime (actus reus and mens rea), principles of causation and concurrence, principles of liability, defences and offences in the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as inchoate offences. The course will be reading-heavy. Students are expected to read cases assigned for each class, and come prepared to discuss them.
