Profile

Ammel Sharon is trained in the social sciences, and has led the Queer Archive for Memory, Reflection and Activism (QAMRA) Archival Project at NLSIU since November 2022. At The Writing Centre, she teaches Academic Reading and Writing with four wonderful colleagues, and offers one-on-one sessions at The Writing Studio. Her research interests include social and cultural histories, disciplinary knowledges, and histories of print in South India.

With RVS Sundaram, she has translated an eleventh century Kannada poem, Gadāyuddham, as The Duel of the Maces (Manohar 2018, Routledge 2020) and a tenth century Kannada treatise, Chandombudhi, as The Ocean of Prosody (Central University of Karnataka 2020). Her essays have appeared in the MISR Review and in Yaari: An Anthology on Friendship (Yoda Press 2023).She co authored Native Bees and Pollination in the Puducherry Bioregion (IFP 2022, Tamil and English). Her forthcoming publications are on Kannada typography, memory studies and writing pedagogy in India. Some of her collaborative work can be found on www.understory.in
