Criminal Law – II is a mandatory course for students in the B.A., LL.B (Hons.) programme. It builds upon the basic foundations of criminal law that students are introduced to in Criminal Law – I. The focus of this course is on offences in the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We will examine and analyze most of the major offences in the IPC. We will not only discuss ingredients of the offences, and interpretation by courts, but also place them in context – why these acts were criminalized, contemporary application and usage etc. We will examine each offence, and interpretation of the relevant section/s through a critical lens. Hence, the course will be reading-heavy. Students are expected to read cases assigned for each class, and come prepared to discuss them.
