In this course students will learn and practice state-of-the-art econometric techniques for handling microeconomic data for public policy. The focus will be on most popular techniques to estimate causal effects of policies, interventions and other factors. As a result, students will learn how, when, and under what assumptions they can use the different methods.  This Elective course will have 3 parts/modules. First module will have two refresher sessions on basic statistics learnt in trimester 1 and 2. These concepts are the foundation of advanced statistical and econometric methods and, therefore, need to be refreshed. The module then will focus on regression analysis and its application, and detailed discussion on causality, counterfactuals and potential outcomes. Module 2 will focus on experimental design and Module 3 will focus on quasi-experimental techniques and their applications in policy evaluation. Every session will have application-based exercise using Stata.

The course will be a combination of lectures, in-class exercises using data, and quantitative article discussion. The course will use the software, Stata for application of the methods on dataset. Students need to bring individual laptop or work in groups.
