Background

This is a core course for students of MPP (1st year students) to familiarize them with foundations of economics for policymaking. This course will cover theories and models in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics applied for economic analysis which are used in policymaking as well.

The first module will provide a background on the discipline of Economics with the introduction of key economics concepts. Module 2 will cover principles of microeconomics with discussions on consumer behaviour theory, theory of production, competitive markets, market failures and market structures. We will also have a session on introduction to behavioural economics.

Pedagogy

The course readings comprise of chapters from books, and academic articles for the sessions. The sessions would be seminar style, where the instructor would take a lecture interspersed with discussions/ numerical solving exercises. Students are expected to actively participate in class by putting forth questions to utilise the sessions.

Apart from the listed readings, the instructor will share the latest developments relevant to the sessions for discussion in class.
