In the current environment, international trade has occupied centre stage with both proponents and opponents presenting strong arguments. The post-covid world faces serious questions pertaining to globalization and free trade. Trade wars are becoming the norm rather than the exception. Political ideology often confounds economic rationale. In this context, it is necessary to go back to the basics and understand some fundamental aspects of trade. It seeks to provide the students with an understanding of the theories and policies that determine the trade relations between countries and also firms in different countries. Aspects of trade such as Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), customs unions, WTO, etc. would be discussed. Alongside the trade aspects, the course also provides a brief overview of the monetary systems and the development of the international financial system and its implications on the developed and developing economies.
