Welcome to the course on Econometrics. This course aims to provide the students with a good understanding of various statistical and econometrics tools which are very useful in understanding and analyzing data. The course is broadly divided into two parts; first part covers statistical tools and lays foundation for part two where students are introduced to econometrics. In the first part, students will be able to understand concepts of data, types of datasets, major statistical tools, tabular and graphical display and numerical measures of data description. In the second part, students will be equipped with basic econometrics and its applications involving various regression techniques.

Broadly, the course equips the students with various concepts, each of which will be taught in three parts. First, understanding the topic/concept conceptually with a real-life example related to public policy. Second, the concept would be discussed mathematically, i.e., based on standard mathematical equations and diagrams in X-Y plane. Lastly, after the concept is clear to the students, using an appropriate dataset, the application of each concept based on appropriate dataset in Indian context would be undertaken using Excel or software like Stata.
