Profile

Angarika is a Development Economist, with research interests in issues of structural transformation, employment generation, and the political economy of development. Her work focusses on understanding the processes of structural change that is unfolding in India, and what these changes entail for different social and economic groups of individuals.

Her doctoral thesis empirically examined the implications of the evolving structure of Indian manufacturing in the 21st century for a manufacturing-led growth. In doing so, it addressed and engaged with three long-standing issues in the Indian manufacturing sector, namely the size distribution of firms, labour market flexibility, and the persistence of informality. In 2020, Angarika was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowship in Economics, which enabled her to undertake research as a visiting fellow at UMass Amherst during her PhD.

Before joining NLSIU, Angarika worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow. She is currently part of the team working on the 2025 State of Working India Report.
