Profile

Sony Pellissery is Professor and Director at the Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion. He is a public policy specialist with special interest in distributive justice. After his doctoral studies from Oxford University, he was serving as Associate Professor at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand, Gujarat. He has won the India Social Science Research award (2009) and Ram Reddy Memorial Award for Social Science (2015).

He is serving on the Board of International Association on Social Quality (since 2024), and Foundation for Inclusive and Sustainable Habitats (since 2022). Previously, he served as advisor to Breman Overseas Research and Development Association (2016-17), as Editorial Board member to Town Planning Review (2017-2021), and as International Editorial Advisor to Journal of Social Policy and Society (2017-2024). His works have been published in Economic and Political WeeklyJournal of Social PolicyGender and Development, Socius, International Journal of Social Welfare, Journal of Human Development, International Journal of Rural Management, International Social Security Review, Global Crime and Indian Anthropologist.

He had been visiting faculty at Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF), the University of Bielefeld (2011-13), Oslo Metropolitan University (2015-17), Zhengzhou University (2018), and University of Nagoya (2024).
