Abstract: This piece examines how women’s admission to the National Defence Academy, India’s premier military educational and training institution, offers a wider opportunity to reimagine the all-male culture of the armed forces. As such, it is pertinent to take a stock of the range of challenges that the newly inducted women cadets may face at the Academy. It must be remembered that a top-down approach, blind to embedded gender inequalities, will serve no purpose.
