Call for Applications | Archivist | Archives at NLS

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) invites applications for one full-time role at the Archives at NLSIU based out of the University campus for a period of one year (extendable). This position will be based in Bengaluru.

About the NLS Archives

Founded in 2024, the Archives at NLSIU preserves a diverse array of multimedia socio-legal materials from post-independence India. Our collection includes public records, institutional documents, personal papers, materials on legal education, and the history of NLSIU. We are dedicated to building accessible databases to facilitate research and promote public engagement.

Responsibilities

This is a full-time position based out of the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru.

  1. Archival: Inventory, sorting, arrangement, metadata creation, cataloguing and uploading digital files to the NLS Archival platform.
  2. Research: Work closely with the archives team to facilitate acquisition, including on-site digitisation.
  3. Institutional: Facilitate researcher access in the archives, and work closely with the NLS team on day-to-day operations.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Candidates with a postgraduate degree in social sciences, information sciences, communications, law, or a related field with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
  • Demonstrated interest in research.

Desirable: 
● Certification or training in archival studies or library sciences.
● Familiarity with archival software such as DSpace or ArchivesSpace.

Experience

Essential:
● Candidates with at least 2 years of work experience.
● Experience in sorting and cataloguing archival records and personal collections.
● Strong organisational and communication skills.

Desirable:
● Proven ability to liaise between archival teams, institutional stakeholders, and funders.
● Prior involvement with public engagement projects.
● Experience facilitating access to archives for diverse users, including students, researchers, and the public.
