The University is looking to hire a “Consulting Editor – Research” to support its efforts at expanding quality research across law and social sciences. This is a full-time position based in Bengaluru.
Role description
The Consulting Editor will be required to do the following:
● Provide editorial feedback on structure, framing and language on various research outputs including reports, articles, papers, advocacy documents across centres, chairs and faculty projects as well as periodic reports and/or strategy notes as required.
● Engage with faculty and research staff in developing research articles and book proposals.
● Review, standardise and strengthen publishing processes at the University.
● Develop strategy notes and build sustained partnerships with stakeholders to enhance visibility and dissemination of NLS publications.
● Design and deliver targeted skill building programs and workshops aimed at improving writing skills of students, research staff and faculty.
● Provide advice from time to time on newer opportunities and developments in publishing.
The Consulting Editor will report to the Dean Research and work closely with the Senior Manager, Research, and the Editor, Journals.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate must have the following skills and qualifications:
Essential:
● Bachelor’s degree in social sciences/media studies/journalism and related fields.
● 8-10 years of work experience in publishing, editing and content review.
● Experience conceptualizing research outputs including book proposals, manuscripts and
journals.
● Proven record of effectively managing multiple deadlines.
● Proven ability of working with long form non-fiction writing.
● Excellent communication skills.
Desirable:
● Master’s degree in journalism/media studies/communication.
● Managerial and mentorship experience.
● Experience engaging with improving editing processes and standards in an institutional set-up.
● Capacity to think strategically and weigh in on conceptual and organizational challenges on topics that might not be familiar to you.
