NLS Student Team Wins Negotiation Award | IBA – VIAC Consensual Dispute Resolution Mediation & Negotiation Competition, Vienna

We congratulate the NLS student team for winning the Negotiation segment of the prestigious IBA – VIAC Consensual Dispute Resolution Mediation & Negotiation Competition, Vienna! This 9th edition of the competition was organised from July 5-10, 2024.

The NLS team consisting of Siddharth Kaushik,  (3-Year LLB student), Hemant Sangwan (3-Year LLB student) and Tejas Chhura (NLS BA LLB 2024), emerged as winners in negotiation among a record-breaking number of 32 teams which participated in the competition this year.

About the Competition

The IBA – VIAC CDRC Mediation & Negotiation Competition is the leading global consensual dispute resolution moot competition, held annually at Vienna. The participation in the competition is subject to a CV qualifier round. Depending on the strength of the CV, a select number of teams are invited to participate in the competition in Vienna. The tournament specializes in Commercial Negotiation and the problem presented to the team was based on the same aspect.

Reflecting on their experience of participating in this competition, the team said: “We had a thoroughly meaningful experience participating in one of the best ADR competitions in the world against some of the best Negotiation teams from around the world. The rich quality of assessors at the tournament coupled with their unique insights helped us grow as a team as we progressed into the rounds. The competition served a great platform for us to learn more about the expanding domain of ADR and network with like-minded people. We would also like to thank the ADR Board for their constant support throughout, helping us in not just with the modalities of the competition but also helping in organizing practice rounds in the build-up to the competition.

NLSIU has a great legacy in this competition and we are very happy and proud to be able to carry forward that legacy. We hope to add more such achievements for the University in the future.”

15 November 2023: Applications Open for Mediator Teams, Negotiators Teams, Assessors, and Volunteers
31 January 2024: Applications for Teams Close
16 February 2024: Applications for Expert Assessors Close
26 February 2024: Announcement of Selected Teams for the CDRC Vienna
9 March 2024: Announcement of Selected Assessors
5 July 2024: IBA-VIAC CDRC Pre-Moot Conference 2024
