NLSIU is excited to extend its partnership with the Jigme Singye Wangchuck (JSW) School of Law, Bhutan!
A team from NLSIU comprising Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Krishnaswamy, and NLS faculty Ms. Preeti Pratishruti Dash, and Mr. Harsha N, visited the JSW School of Law’s campus in Paro, Bhutan in February 2023. The partnership between the two universities was first initiated in 2019 with an intent to facilitate student and faculty exchange. This visit marked the beginning of the renewed partnership, and will be followed by several research and teaching collaborations. We are grateful for the generous support and facilitation from His Excellency Amb. Sudhakar Dalela and the Indian Embassy in Bhutan.
During the visit, the team attended the Paro Forum on Climate Change, organised by the JSW School of Law. Mr. Harsha N., who teaches Environmental Law at NLSIU, moderated a session on Governance, Law, and Climate Change at the Forum. Prof. Krishnaswamy also had a brief interactive session with the students at the JSW School of Law where he discussed aspects of Comparative Constitutional Law and the Basic Structure Doctrine in India.
The team from NLSIU also interacted with our alumni in Bhutan – Ms. Sonam Deki Retty (NLS BA LLB 2014), Senior Attorney, On deputation to his Majesty’s Secretariat from the Office of the Attorney General; and Ms. Jangchub Choden Gyamtsho (NLS BA LLB 2021), Attorney, Office of the Attorney General.
Reflecting on their interactions, the team said: We are proud of our alumni’s achievements and their success in building strong legal careers with the Royal Government of Bhutan. It is heartening to see our alumni on their path to becoming world leaders across the globe!”
