Reading and Discussion on ‘Marx and the Search for Paradise’

We are excited to welcome Prof. Sudipta Kaviraj to the NLS campus during the second and third week of November. Prof. Kaviraj is Professor of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies in Columbia University, and Distinguished Visiting Faculty at NLS. Prior to joining Columbia University, he taught at the Department of Political Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He has also taught Political Science at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, and been an Agatha Harrison Fellow at St. Antony’s College, Oxford. He is a stalwart of the Subaltern Studies collective, extremely well-versed with Marxist scholarly traditions in the West and outside of it, and remains a keen analyst of the foundations and trajectories of modern Indian constitutional politics.
On November 20, 2023, Prof. Kaviraj will be leading an offline reading and discussion session on ‘Marx and the search for paradise’ from 3 to 6 pm at the NLS campus. Those who are interested to attend this session are requested to confirm their participation via email. Participants are also requested to attend after having read the whole paper. The paper, as well as details of the venue, will be shared with those who have confirmed their participation.
Prof. Kaviraj is visiting NLS from November 14 to 22, 2023 during which he will be engaged in a number of activities. This includes the faculty seminar on campus on November 15 and the M K Nambyar Annual Lecture for 2023 on November 17 at the Bangalore International Centre.
