Student Feature | Power of motivation: Devansh Shukla

From being a science nerd in search of the ‘correct’ answer to appreciating the multitude of layers in law

Hailing from a family of lawyers in Lucknow, Devansh Shukla’s primary reason for pursuing law is the tangible and widespread impact the profession can make in the real world. “Growing up among lawyers, I have witnessed the joy of being able to bring relief to clients. Those priceless smiles only increased my love for the profession,” he said.

Devansh is currently in the second year of his undergraduate studies. Describing how he spent the last year discovering various tenets of law, he said, “I used to be a science nerd, always in search of the ‘correct’ answer. My time at NLS has taught me that in the real world, more often than not, there are no correct answers. There is a good solution and then there is always a better solution. I have finally begun to appreciate that perfection is not a destination but a journey.”

Devansh is a recipient of the Swaminath and Nirmala Raja Scholarship. “The scholarship has truly motivated me. I draw inspiration from Mr Siddharth Raja, an alumnus of NLSIU and the founder of this scholarship. I aspire to accomplish something beyond just academics and a professional life. Giving back to the community is always on my mind,” he said.

He says he has developed a strong liking for numbers and is keen on pursuing something at the intersection of legal argumentation and proficiency with numbers. “While there is still a lot of territory which is yet to be explored, I do have a slight inclination towards Commercial Law,” he added.
